Microtunnelling is a highly specialised field of construction where every project places specific demands on the technical solution. To meet these requirements, Pro Lift built a new Volvo FH truck for Smalger in cooperation with Volvo Trucks Estonia Pärnu.
Smalger specialises in microtunnelling and trenchless construction, installing 400–1,500 mm diameter pipelines and collectors for wastewater and sewerage systems. The company operates mainly in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, using specialised microtunnelling technology that is still rare in the Baltic region.
A standard work truck is not enough for this type of operation. A microtunnelling project can require equipment equivalent to 7–8 shipping containers, together with large generators and other machinery. Individual components can weigh more than 10 tonnes, and not all equipment can be transported in hooklift containers. On site, machinery and pipes may also need to be lowered to depths of up to 10 metres.
To meet these requirements, Pro Lift designed and installed a complete equipment solution on a Volvo FH truck, including an HMF 9520 loader crane, an AJK HLFK20 hooklift system and a DOA mud pump.
For demanding microtunnelling and underground construction projects, lifting capacity is only one part of the solution. The complete workflow matters: how heavy equipment is transported to the site, how it is handled and positioned safely, and how efficiently the team can move on to the next project. This practical approach is at the core of every Pro Lift solution.
